Subject: [NJHUNTER] Nursing at St. Francis?

Dear all you NURSES! out there:
Roberta Dixon-Pastor's mention of a nursing school on the Mercer Co. list,
"She graduated
from Mc Kinley nursing school in Trenton around 1932..." puts me in mind of
my grandmother's RN training.
I believe that my grandmother, Marie REID, attended St. Francis Hospital's
training program in Trenton, graduating around 1933 or so. She boarded in
during the term, but went home to her sister's house in Lambertville, NJ
whenever they got time off. (Her sister, Kitty REID, would have trained
there eight years earlier.) I have a lovely full-length photo of my
grandmother in her nurse's uniform. She told me many stories of the
shenanigans that the students got up to (discipline was strict, but there
were a lot of laughs), and was always proud that she had maintained her RN
status until the day she died (in 1990).
Have I remembered it correctly? Was/is there such a place? I see from a
web search that a St. Francis Medical Center exists in Trenton today. Is
this a "descendant" of the facility that trained my grandmother? There are
probably still plenty of ladies around who remember their student days at
this institution. Where would their records be archived? Does anyone have
a "class" photo with names listed? Are there ever reunions for former
students? Is there an alumni newsletter?
Would anyone on the Mercer and/or Hunterdon lists like to put their two
cents in?
Thanks so much for your interest.
Best wishes,
Mary Jo C. Martin
