Dear Marj, Dave and the List-

I have been compiling a descendancy for all the Souders lines in
Hunterdon and Warren Counties (as well as following those branches who
moved into PA.)
I have a Souders family with roots in both counties around 1800.

One son, Joshua Souders, married first a Mary Fishbough in Hunterdon
County, ca. 1815, and second, an Anne Vanderbilt around 1827-1829 in
Alexandria Twp (married by Rev. William Sloan). They moved to Easton,
Pa., around 1830 and in 1855 Anne Souders applied for a widow's pension
for Joshua's service in the War of 1812. Her age given there as well as
in censuses up through 1870 would compute to a birthdate of around 1795 -
or of the same generation as Jacob Vanderbilt (from Marj). (In a later
deposition when she was an old lady, Anne stated that her name had been
Anne "Thomas" - which does create a bit of a muddle)

Two of Joshua Souders' sisters married Bellis/Belles men: Elizabeth, b.
1779, married John Bellis, son of Peter and Elsie (Corwine) Bellis; and
Ose Souders, b. 1777 married Amos Bellis whom I believe to be an older
brother of John but haven't found documentation for this yet. Both
Bellis families moved to Northampton County, PA., before 1810 as well.

I went into this in some detail because so often neighboring families
intermarry and there may be good circumstantial evidence to link the
Souders, Bellis, and Vanderbilt families - wherever that is !!

Dave, do you have dates for William Vanderbelt and Mary Bellis?
Marilyn

I have a William Vanderbelt married to Mary Bellesfelt (Bellis) and they
had
a son, Peter.
My info is in the Bellis line. Unfortunately, I have no further info on
Vanderbelt.
