I am stumped on a Nicholas (A.) DALLEY, 1806-1878, who lived in Hunterdon and Somerset counties, alternating his address each census. He was active in the Readington Reformed Church. His wife was Catherine DEMOTT/DEMOOT, 1811-1895. I have been to the State Archives, the church archives, and the county libraries in addition to the LOC, NARA, the DAR library, and the local LDS library. There are many DALLEY/DALLY/DAILY, etc., families in the 2 counties, most of which seem to be linked. Peter S. DALLEY was a witness to Nicholas' will. A biography of Nicholas and Catherine's son George says Nicholas was a shoemaker as a young man, but he is a farmer in the census records. Several of his sons, including my ancestor John N. DALLEY (m. Mary Elizabeth LUNGER), were carpenters and lived for some years in Newark, where my branch stayed.
I also find a Nicholas DALLEY in Tewkesbury Twp. listed as a ratepayer in the late 1780s, which would make him a candidate for my Nicholas's father or grandfather, but I can't find him in any of the records I've searched so far.
I'd also like to trace Catherine's line back. I think her parents were Lawrence and Sarah (her first child's name is Sarah), but have seen only one church record to back that up.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
