I have been attempting to find the names of the parents of one of my
direct ancestors from NJ for over 20 years with no success.

It seems that I've researched every source available but I'm hoping that
someone can offer suggestions in continuing my search.

My ancestor for whom I'm trying to find the parents is Abraham LAKE.
I know much about Abraham. He was born in NJ, most likely Hunterdon Co,
on 20 April 1796. He married Susan GARRISON (dau of James GARRISON &
Dinah ROBINS) in about 1818 in NJ, most likely Hunterdon Co. Between
1820 and 1827 they moved to Warren Co, NJ, first to Greenwich then to
Knowlton. Between 1857 and 1860 they removed to Susquehanna Co, Pa.
They had children: Elizabeth, John L, William G, Mary Jane, Rachael,
Dian, Abraham, and Isaac G. By the time the family moved to Pa Elizabeth
had her own family (with Jacob J BECK) and stayed behind in Warren Co,
and Dian and Abraham Jr were deceased. The rest of the children moved
to Pa with their parents. Susan died on 8 May 1861. Abraham died on
14 July 1874.

In Stocker's "Centennial History of Susquehanna Co, Pa" there is a bio on
John L LAKE (son of Abraham). In this bio Abraham's father is described
as "... John Lake of Hunterdon Co, NJ, had an extensive business as
auctioneer, was a farmer and a prominent politician and served as
sheriff of the county." I have never been able to find another piece
of evidence saying that there was a John LAKE in Hunterdon Co who had a
son named Abraham. I know that there are two John LAKEs who lived in
Hunterdon Co in the right time frame, but as far as I know all their
children are accounted for and there is no Abraham.

I'm seeking suggestions or ideas of where to look for possible help.
Maybe some non-mainstream type of resource that may give me a clue.
I'm all ears for any type of suggestion at all.

I've never been to the genealogy area at Rutgers. Do they have resources
that can't be found anywhere else?

Thanks for any help.
