I need information on a Thomas RUCKMAN who adopted a child named Jesse
EDWARDS, age 4, around 1760, in Bucks Co, PA and took him to live in
Hunterdon Co., NJ.. Jesse's parents are uknown.
Jesse EDWARDS was born about 1756 in Bucks Co, PA. All of this
information was according to his own testimony for Rev War pension.
He lived and worked for Thomas RUCKMAN until he was approximately 19 years
old, when he returned to Bucks Co. PA. Jesse was possibly 'bound out' or
apprenticed, and not actually adopted. At age 4????
Does anyone have any idea what the connection (if any) between the RUCKMAN
and the EDWARDS families could be?
Is there any place on the internet that I could get info on the practice of
apprenticeship of infants in 1700s PA and NJ?
Any info appreciated. Thank you.
Joanne in Orange County, CA.
