Hi,
I also have been watching your listings and think they are great. Some of
the families tie in with my family. In all your workings have you every
run
across the name PIATT-PYATT? My ancestors were in Hunterdon County as
early
as 1750 but I have been having great trouble getting information,
especially
1740-1800.
Would be very grateful for a reply. Thanks ever so much.
Dick Piatt<

I changed your subject title - hope you don't mind.

I haven't found any one in my direct line with a P surname, however,
there is one resource that has been entirely overlooked in regards
to years as posted above.

New Jersey might not have any "Census Records for 1790-1830",
but Hunterdon County has one better resource.

We have the Tax Ratables for the years 1778 to 1803.

The Tax Ratables I have copied are only for certain letters in Amwell,
Hopewell and Kingwood Twps.

Alexandria Twp. - Jul 1786 to Sep 1803
Bethlehem Twp. - Jul 1778 to 1802
Lebanon Twp. - May 1778 to 1803
Maidenhead Twp. (now Lawrenceville, Mercer Co.) - May 1778 to Aug 1789
Reading Twp. - May 1778 to 1802
Tewksbury Twp. - Aug 1779 to Jun-Aug 1796
Trenton - Sept 1779 to ?

The Ratables do tell lots of information which includes acres of cultivated
and uncultivated
land, amount taxed, if they lived in town - it lists house & lots, amount
taxed, plus if they had
horses, horned cattle and hogs and if you take time to look, they do list
"singlemen" and whom
they lived with, plus will give you the Militia List for each Township and
who had a horse.

These films are on file with the State Library in Trenton, Court House in
Flemington, and
Hunterdon County Historical Society.

If you write them first for a look-up and they say they are unable, you can
rent this microfilm
at a local LDS church that has a FHL (Family History Library) which is open
to the public.
Film number is FHL #0865475.

Thanks, but I don't need any look ups that I know of, but as you go threw
the E's, if you notice
"Estill/Estell" they either weren't listed or I just wasn't looking.

I have 199 pages for Amwell, Hopewell, and Kingwood for B, C, F, H, L, M,
N, R, and S
and I will post these when I'm done listing the cemteries.

Since I have these out let me take a look for P's.

no date (think it's 1778 or 1777) - no P
1803 - no p. 37, for P's, no Piatt/Pyatt listed as singlemen w/ horse,
nor in the Militia.
1802 - no P
1789 - no Piatt/Pyatt
1786 - no P
1784 -no Piatt/Pyatt either taxed nor singleman
1780 - copy is not real good, but have a William Pillet/Pittet, if that
counts
taxed for 350 acres - p. 29 Amwell Twp., June 1780
no singleman.
1780, Jan-Feb - none of the above spellings.

You weren't in Hopewell, May 1778, Sep 1779, nor Jan 1780

However, x gr grandfather Gabriel Hoff does have in Kingwood Twp.
May 1778.
Pettite, Nathaniel; Aaron; widow Mary;
Sep 1779 - my copy almost entitely unreadable on paper
widow Mary; ~; Aaron
Feb 1780 - unreadable
Aug 1785 - no P's
Aug 1786 - you need p. 16, p. 17 has Pettet, Mary; Arron
Jul-Aug 1789 - no P's.
Jun-Aug 1797 - no P's
1802 - no P's

What can I say, other than if there was no Nailor/Naylor or Rockefeller on
the page, you didn't get copied.

If you do copy all the P's, would you come back and post them all to the
list?
