In the Hunterdon marriage index that many of you have seen, there is an
appendix entitled "Slaves and Negroes." I thought it might be helpful to
post the names of the slaveowners. This is an area which I haven't seen
explored on this list in some time, and it is certainly interesting (and
tragic) from a family history point of view. I've also included the year of
the marriage to give you a time frame on the slaveowners.

From: Marriage Records of Hunterdon County New Jersey 1795-1875, Vol. 1,
Being an Index to the marriages recorded in the office of the County Clerk
at Flemington, NJ, by Hiram E. Deats, published by Hunterdon House,
Lambertville, NJ, 1986

Gershom LAMBERT 1805

By the way, if anyone would like the names of the brides and grooms, just
let me know and I'd be happy to scan the page for you. Please keep in mind
that two-thirds have only a first name.

Best wishes,
