Dave, don't forget to also try Somerset County. There are LaBaws in Montgomery
Twp and they've been here for hundreds of years. Bill LaBaw (the elder - there
are two of them) could probably fill an encyclopedia with info on your family.
I would suggest that you contact one of them soon as Bill is elderly and lives
with a health aide. Contact me off the list and I'll give you more info.
There was a Rev. Peter Labagh (1772-1858) who was the minister of the Harlingen
Reformed Church in Belle Mead from 1809-1821. There was a book on his ministry
called "The Memoir of the Rev. Peter Labagh, D.D." written by a Rev. John Todd
and published in 1860. No idea where you can find a copy, unfortunately. He
was a dynamic person who added 500 (!) people to the church rolls during his
ministry. Eight of his parishoners became ministers. He helped found the
Somerset County Historical Society and dismissed some of his members to found
the Blawenburg Church and then more members to found the church in Griggstown.
When he retired in 1844 he went to live with his son-in-law, Mr. L. Van der
Veer, near Griggstown. He died Oct 25, 1858 at 84 and is buried in Rocky Hill.
Hope this helps. I looked this up, by the way, and don't have this all
memorized!
