Subject: [NJHUNTER] Nixon and Johnston of 18th century Hunterdon
Date: Fri, 14 Jul 2000 13:53:54 EDT

Greetings,

I'm searching for information on the Nixon and Johnston families of 18th century Hunterdon County. A Patrick Nixon (bc 1720-dc 1777) is believed to have settled in Hunterdon County, possibly in or near Franklin TWP. He was an emigrant from Ireland, possibly Ulster. His daughter Margaret Nixon (1751-1808) was married to David Johnston (1746-1815) who was a captain in the Hunterdon County militia during the Revolution. David's father Samuel Johnston (1706-1785)was an emigrant from Scotland, a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas for Hunterdon County and a member of the 'Committee of Safety' in 1777. David's brother Colonel Philip Johnston was killed at the Battle of Long Island in August 1776. I suspect these folks are ancestors of my GGGG grandmother Hannah Parke (1795-1865).

Thanks,

Rick Novak
