Rick,

Have you seen a book entitled "Facts and Fantasies of Franklin"
written by J. E. Stout [1995]? This book makes frequent reference to
the Johnston and Nixon families.

The earliest by the name of Nixon is noted as:
Hiram Nixon b. Sep 30, 1822, d. Jul 08, 1875. Hiram Nixon, the
builder of the Point Breeze Tavern and for many years its keeper,
sleeps here with only the road between his final resting place and the
home of his boyhood. [This refers to what is known as the "Nixon
Burying Ground". It is named as such only because it lies across the
street from the Nixon homestead.]

The early Johnston's are noted as Col. Philip Johnston...he was the
son of Philip Johnston who lived in a large stone mansion at Sidney,
in which home the younger Philip was born in 1741. The Colonel was
killed Aug 27, 1776, "just thirty-five years to a day from the date of
his birth. However, the book goes on to describe why the parentage of
the Colonel is not clear. The book also includes the will of one
Samuel Johnston dated Jan 03, 1775. His children listed are:
Robert, Susannah [Grandin], David, Samuel, James, Elizabeth, Catherine
[Maybury].

If you would like copies of pages from this book, let me know.

Happy hunting!
