Subject: [NJHUNTER] Stockton Explosion of 1888
Date: Thu, 17 Aug 2000 20:35:07 -0600
Hello List,
In looking for historical material about the time my great-grandfather was
living in Stockton, NJ, I ran across a book which talked about the
Prallsville quarry, and the huge explosion that occurred there on 19 May
1888. Since my GGF was a stonecutter, and probably at the Prallsville
quarry, I would like to find out more, if possible.
1. Does anyone have a reference for more information about this mishap?
Perhaps a newspaper article or two? Are copies of the Stockton Beacon for
the period of the 1880s available for research?
2. Was anyone named Hutchinson injured or killed by the explosion?
Thanks for any help,
Jim
