I recently located the THARP / GARRISON cemetery where Ephraim THARP
is buried. It is located down a private lane off Route 579 in
Bethlehem Township. For those of you who are familiar with the area,
the entrance to the lane is just opposite Goritz Road. You can see
the headstones along the lane to the right, about 50 feet into a
wooded area.

I was saddened by the neglect of this burial ground, after negotiating
through all the dead trees, stickerbushes and poison ivy. It is now
being literally surrounded by residential development. The lane
itself leads to the construction office. I don't know what New Jersey
law says about cemetery preservation, but I hope that the fragile
headstones are not removed or destroyed.

Oddly, Ephraim THARP who died in 1874 has a very large, contemporary
stone. If anyone would like digital pictures or headstone
transcriptions, please contact me via email. I can probably respond
to you this weekend.

Happy hunting!
