Subject: [NJHUNTER] BLOOM at Mt. Pleasant
Date: Sat, 7 Oct 2000 17:15:05 -0400
I just completed a BLOOM query for someone on this list on September
29th. It is now an opportune time for me to share it with all. The
headstone of Peter Bloom still stands in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at
Alexandria, so the information appearing in J. P. Snell [1881] can be
verified. If anyone would like a digital photo, please let me know
and I can take one. This cemetery is only 2 miles from my home.
I have a very recent copy of the interment register of the Mt.
Pleasant Cemetery, and cemetery inscriptions. I will post all the
BLOOM information I have to this list. Yes, there are lots of them!
*****
Many BLOOMs are in this cemetery, but these early ones are not on the
interment record. I went back to the cemetery to check, and they are
buried there. Here are the headstone inscriptions, as best as I can
read them.
Sacred to the memory of Peter Bloom
who departed this life May ??, in the year 1814.
Eva Blum is buried next to him, but I cannot read the worn out
inscription.
Sarah Bloom is buried a couple of rows ahead of Peter:
In memory of Sarah, wife of Peter Bloom, who died June 2?, 1853, Aged
??
Buried next to Sarah is Elener Bloom, wife of Samuel Bloom, also
Abraham Bloom.
Also, in the general area is Peter Bloom who departed this life March
9th, 1818 in the 89th year of his age.

[Original Message Snippet]
His grave marker says "Sacred to the memory of Peter Bloom who
departed this life May 4th in the year 1814, Aged 83 years". (NOTE:
Although this history was written in 1881 which could explain why this
info is known, it is not, today, verifiable where this information
came from. I visited the Mt Pleasant Cemetery on 5/24/1998 and could
not find this marker, nor is he listed in the cemetery records which
the caretaker, Mr. Van Syckle, allowed me to peruse. It should be
addressed that there is a large Bloom burial area and that there are
many sites that have broken headstones or headstones that have
descended into the soil leaving only a portion visible. Also, I found
burial sites that were not listed in the cemetery record book, such as
Peter Bloom's second wife, Sarah.)
