Any one who can provide a clue. Do you have any knowledge of Dame Schools,
or teachers of needle work to girl children, who would have been operating
such a school in about 1731 anywhere in Camden Co.,
Salem Co., Hunterdon Co., Somerset Co., Gloucester Co., Warren Co.,
Middlesex Co., Monmouth Co., all in New Jersey, or possibly in Philadelphia
County / Philadelphia City, Montgomery Co., Bucks Co., Berks Co., all in
Pennsylvania.

I inherited a band sampler ""stitched by ELIZABETH LINCH in the eleventh
year of her age, 1731."" Old calendar.

Cross stitch Silk on homespun linen. 7" w. x 20" l., with 20 lines of text.

Since I can't seem to find Elizabeth, yet, I thought I'd look for the
teacher. Her family must have had some little money, to allow an eleven
year old the time and education to create such a luxury. Most people, men
as well as women, were illiterate in those days, and precious little time or
effort was devoted to educating the girls. And bear in mind that women,
especialy little girls, were almost invisible in the public record.

Elizabeth's sampler is what got me going on genealogy. I have to find
Elizabeth. Is 270 years too much to overcome?

Any thoughts, anyone?
