I am very sorry that in my haste to post the e-mail, I forgot to
mention the dates in the ledger. The "first" page, which is actually
numbered "11" has a header that says "Wertsville in account with J.H.
Manners" and "Jan. 1884".
Most of the printed receipts, etc that are tucked inside are dated
1912.
Inside the front cover it says "George Akers, Wertsville NJ"
Some additional names that I found are:

J.H. MANNERS (as above, and who was obviously working for Mr. Akers)
J.C. VAN DOREN (Hopewell dealer in building materials-receipt dated
1938)
Wm SCHANCK (paid for one and a half day's work in Apr 1884)
Julia E (F?) AKERS (name crossed out-for work? in Oct 1884)
