Michael Best and his wife Anna (unknown) christened three children in the Dutch Reform Church, Lebanon: James Best christened on August 9, 1789, Mary Best christened on January 2, 1791 and Henry Best christened on April 13, 1794. I believe that this is the James Best that moved to Elgin Co., Onterio abt. 1812. His tombstone indicates he was born in 1789 (no birth date) and was from New Jersey. His first born son was named Michael. The NJ information I have came from LDS records.

I suspect that Michael's father was James Best who was in the New Providence area but at least one son, Cornelius, died in Hunterton. James children were: William, b.abt. 1756; John b. June 15, 1759, died Sunbury, PA in April 1839; Jane b. abt. 1761; James b.abt. 1761; Andrew b. abt. 1761; Cornelius b. abt 1765; Michael, b. abt. 1767; Daniel b. abt. 1769.

Any information would help. Are there more records in the Dutch Reform Church in Lebanon such as marriages and death records? The Bests in Onterio were Baptists. Is this consistant with Dutch Reform?

James Best (1789-1846) married Amy Bodine. Bodine is a common name in Hunterdon so she also was probably from there. Abraham Bodine, married to Zellah Taylor, also is found in Elgin Co. near the Best family. Abraham was of an age to be Amy's brother, about the same age as James. Since there were Taylors in Huntington I am guessing that both couples were married before going to Canada, both couples were from Huntington area. Can't find an "Amy" amoung the Huntington Bodines, nor a Zellah amoung the Huntington Taylors on the web. Anyone have any ideas?
