I have a copy of an indictment for John Case during the October 1826 Term
in Hunterdon Co, NJ as follows:

State vs John Case, son of Peter,File #3269

Pleaded not guilty May Term 1827

The document reads:
The Grand Inquest, for the State of New Jersey, and for the body of the
County of Hunterdon upon their oath and affirmation those who were affirmed
severally alleging themselves conscientiously scrupulous of taking an oath.

Present, that John Case, son of Peter Case late of the township of Amwell
in the said county of Hunterdon on the twenty third day of October in the
year of our Lord, eighteen hundred and twenty six at the township of Amwell
aforesaid, in the county aforesaid, and within the jurisdiction of this
court, with force and arms, &c. in and upon one Godfrey Dilts in the peace
of God and of this state, then and there being, an assault did make, and
him the said Godfrey Dilts did beat and ill treat, and other wrongs to the
said Godfrey Dilts then and there did to the great damage of the said
Godfrey Dilts contrary to the form of the statute in such case made and
provided, and against the peace of this state, the government and dignity
of the same.
