Where do I get information on the Hunterdon County Orphans Court?
This is my problem:
Michael BEST, b. 1767, and wife Anna, b. 1758 had four children: Jain, b.
1785, James, b. 1789, Mary, b. 1790, and Henry b. 1793. James, Mary and
Henry were christened in the Lebanon Dutch Reform Church, Hunterdon Co., NJ.
James and Mary's christening took place within three months of birth. Henry
was christened 15 months later. Michael and Anna BEST are never heard of
again, nor is Jain BEST. James, Mary and Henry surface in Jamestown,
Columbia Co. PA when James BEST marries Amy BODINE in 1809. This couple and
his sister Mary BEST travel with a group to Elgin Co., Ontario, Canada to
homestead. James is 22, Mary 20. Henry stays behind in PA. I have found
no trace of Michael or Anna BEST in Hunterdon or in the Columbia Co. PA
area. I know they only had these four children (information in the Bible of
son James BEST). Therefore, possible that Michael and Anna died, leaving
their children orphans. How do I find out ?

Robert H. Smith said:
Hunterdon County Orphans Court on 6 May 1802 had appointed Andrew REEDER
guardian of Martha GREEN, daughter of Richard GREEN and his first wife
Martha HOWELL, daughter of Christopher HOWELL . Richard GREEN removed to a
place in Pennsylvania. Possibly he was the man of this name in the 1790
Federal Census of Bedford Co., PA as head of a family composed of himself,
one other male of 16 years and over, one
male under sixteen and three females.
