I am looking for information on early ( 1851) travel from Hunterdon to
Ill.
My family left Hunterdon in the Spring of 1851, a rather large group.
They had sold land near Pattenburg N.J. and traveled to Peoria Ill, via
Erie Canal. and down the Illinois River.
Were these trips common at that time?
What kind of boat was used?
Were any records of passengers kept?
Intreated in any history of this travel in the mid 1800s
