Dear Ms. Olds,
I don't subscribe to your newspaper but received a
free copy yesterday as part of your subscription
program.
I was very excited by two article in the paper. One
was written by Cathy Budman of your staff and the
other was written by Ed Johnson "for the Star Ledger".
As members of a genealogy community, we all know how
important it is to protect and preserve our local
cemeteries. Only a genealogist knows how difficult it
is find information from a distance. Many of the
people buried in the cemeteries in our state have
descendants who are now living far from New Jersey.
Often the families of the folks buried here join
genealogy lists and those far away and those who still
live in the area all try to communicate and share the
information we have.
It is too bad that the articles were not given even
more publicity and that they weren't expanded into
larger articles. We'd all love to know the names of
the cemeteries and how the information gleaned from
the tombstones will be maintained and able to be
accessed. Email addresses and phone numbers for the
volunteer groups and county employees would have been
a great addition to the articles.
I've taken the liberty of retyping the articles and
sending them out over our Rootsweb.com internet
genealogy mailing lists to those interested in
researching Hunterdon, Somerset and Sussex Counties so
that all of our members will know of these terrific
projects.
Thanks for the information!
Sincerely,
Sharon Moore Colquhoun
