Subject: [NJHUNTER] Fulper, Sutphin - Snook?
Date: Tue, 12 Jun 2001 15:47:15 EDT

Ginny, Bill and Barri: The coincidence of surnames in the messages you
posted (copies further) is interesting re the Snook families of Hunterdon Co.

William SCHNUCK/SNOOK of Amwell, wrote his will 26 May 1760, pro. 18 Jun
1760, naming among his children Elizabeth VOLBART. But when William's wife
Cateron/Catherine SNOOK made her will 30 Jan 1763, pro 3 Jun 1769, their
daughter Elizabeth was transcribed as the wife of William PHULPHER.
Elizabeth is said to have married as her second husband, William SUTPHIN.
She was born perhaps aft 1726. I have no other definitive information on
Elizabeth or her husbands but believe Phulpher was also Fulper. Any ideas?

William SNOOK, son of William and Cateron, (b ca 1725-d 1793, bur Larison's
Corner) had among his children: Anne SNOOK who md Samuel DANBERRY and Mary
SNOOK who md William DANBERRY. Further identification of the Danberrys would
be appreciated.

When Anne SNOOK of Amwell, wife of George SNOOK (son of William & Cateron)
died, her inventory was made by Peter HORTMAN, Esq. and Lewis SNOOK on 4 Nov
1820. In a division of land, Amwell Twp., 1839, John HORTMAN, dec'd, was a
tenant-in-common with Gabriel D. HORTMAN and Lot 2 of the division was
bounded by John SNOOK and Moses SMITH. Is there a possibility the
Hortman/Snook connections were more than as neighbors?

One daughter of George SNOOK (above), Mary SNOOK (b 20 Sep 1777) appears to
have married John YOUNG (b 10 Nov 1771), son of Philip YOUNG. In the
published record of Benjamin Young's ancestors (Genealogies of NJ Families,
ppg 805-806), there are entries for Mary Snook and John Young as well as for
"Jacob SUTPHIN, Father to Ann SUTPHIN Died Oct. 14, 1817" and others of
interest.

John SNOOK, Sr. (bef. 1725 - bef 14 Mar 1794), eldest son of William &
Cateron, married as his last wife, Elizabeth (-) MARTS, widow of John MARTS.
John & Elizabeth MARTS had a son William MARTS. In the division of Lewis
CHAMBERLIN's land, Amwell, 1814, among those who owned land adjoining Lewis
Chamberlin were William & Christopher MARTS. Were there marriages between
Chamberlin and Marts or Chamberlin and Snook?

William MARTS, by the way, married Elizabeth SNOOK, dau. of George Snook (son
of William & Cateron).

Suggestions or clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Good evening from Idaho. I have requested information on these surnames
previously, I know, but tonight I am going to be really specific. I recently
sent this very list to Marietta Pickell but maybe there will be someone in a
wider audience who will have information, too.

1. I don't know the names of the parents for Christeen Fulper. She married
Samuel Groff on 5 May 1780.
2. I don't know the parents of Charity Hortman who married James Stout
Sutphin. He was born in 1778.>>

Sarah Fisher died 27 February 1792 she was the second wife of Lewis
Chamberlin. His first wife was Mary Hagerman. After Sarah died Lewis married
Anna Fisher sister of Sarah. As you listed the parents of Sarah and Anna were
William Fisher and Charity Youngblood. William Fisher's father was Peter
Fisher. Lewis and Anna are buried in the Baptist church yard in Flemington,
New Jersey.

The only information that I have concerning Alpheus Chamberlin and Catherine
Young is that they are both buried in Amwell Ridge Cemetery, Larison's
Corner, New Jersey.

Sarah Fisher and Lewis Chamberlin are my fifth great-grand parents. I am
descendant from their daughter Gertrude who married Christopher Danberry.
