There are a few Eick researchers in the Hunterdon list who are descended
from Tunis Eick (Eyck or Eycke) and Susannah Taylor. Tunis is the son of
Tunis Eick (d. 1791) and his wife Catherine ?? Eick, (b.1724, d. June 16,
1811) both buried at St. Thomas' Churchyard in Alexandria Twp. The dates of
the younger Tunis are: 14 December 1755 - 28 May 1830. Susannah Taylor
Eick's dates are 14 February 1762 - 22 November 1841. They are also buried
at St. Thomas'. They were married not in 1804, but probably closer to 1781
as their first son, Elijah Eick, was born in 1782. Susannah's parents are
John Taylor, (b. 16 July 1720 in England, d. 24 Sept. 1805), and Elizabeth
Thatcher, (b. October 1725 in England, d. 1 March 1789). They are also
buried in St. Thomas' churchyard. Documentation includes the NJ wills of
Tunis Eick, John Taylor, and Bartholomew Thatcher which list their children,
and the tombstone inscriptions from St. Thomas', as well as the GSNJ Bible
records mentioned by Robert Smith in Special Collections, Rutgers
University. St Thomas' Episcopal Church is currently active after a hiatus
of many years, and is the oldest congregation in Hunterdon County dating
from the 1730s. Unfortunately very few early records exist for St. Thomas.
