Whitehouse Review March 2, 1905

Death:

Mrs. Ruth Davis, widow of John Davis, age 88 years, died Saturday morning
from grip, at the home of a son at Martinsville, Deceased was for may
years a residence at Hackelbarney, until about a year ago she went to make
her home with her son where she died. She was an aunt of Joseph Pickell,
of this place an the grandmother of Elmer Vactor, a former principal of our
school.. She is survived by eight sons and one daughter, Jacob of Whit
House Station; Kiser of Hackelbarney; George an Mrs. Wm. Vactor of
Martinsville; Martin Luther of Liberty Corners; William of Morristown;
John of Pottersville; Henry of Corning, Iowa; Harvey of Glen
Gardner. Short services were held at her late home Monday. Funeral
Services were held at Chester Tuesday. Interment at Chester by Undertaker
Smith of Peapack.

Andy Burd is just recovering from a severe attach of the measles.
S. C. Strong, of Rahway, was a visitor in town over Sunday.
Oscar Vliet has returned from a ten day trip through the South
J. S. Kessler visited over Sunday with relatives on Long Island.
William Bunn moved Wednesday from the Cox Farm to Pluckamin.
Mrs. J. S. Kessler has returned from a visit with relatives on Long Island.
Garret Todd moved Thrusday from the Petty place to George Booth's house.
Wm. Kippix moved from the Cox Farm to College Point, L.I. on Weds.
George Rutman of Newark, visited at the home of Charles Ludlow over Sunday.
Charles Gertis of New York visited his cousin, Bert Van Horn, over Sunday
Miss Sadie Barker, of Chester, is visiting this week with Mrs. Fred.
Ballentine.
Mrs. Jacob Trimmer, who has been so critically ill, has now improved very much.
Miss Gertrude Todd entertained her friend, Miss Viola Burd, three or four
days last week.
Mrs. John Tuttle of Bedminster, visited Wed. and Thrus. with Mrs. Wm. Wack.
Mrs. Anna Rinehart, of Newark, visited Washington's Birthday with Mrs.
Anderson Smith.
A reception will be tendered William Ludlow and bride at the home of is
parents Friday evening.
Elmer W. Brokaw, of Raton, New Mexico, is visiting his family at the home
of Miss Julia Folsom.
Mrs. Charles Tiger is entertaining her niece, Miss Schomp of Middletown,
New York.
George Philhower was pleasantly surprised by a number of relatives Tues.
evening. A very enjoyable time was spent.
R. S. Cox who recently sold his farm to Dr. Knight of NY will move to
Newark April 1st, where he will start in the coal business with his son as
a partner.
Mrs. Theodore Jerolaman sprained the left wrist by falling upon the ice
Weds of last week.
Benj. Springer and employee of Walter Ballentine, was compelled to walk
home from work one day last week. When near the office of F. S. Tainter a
runner of the sled broke and ended the ride abruptly.

The many friends of Miss Nettie May Davis, who has been so critically ill,
will be pleased to know that she is now improving very rapidly and it is
expected she will be removed very soon to the sanitarium of Dr. I. MacMunn
Holly of Brooklyn, under whose care she has been. Dr. Holly and Dr. Farrow
held a consultation Sunday morning and she will undergo the electrical
treatment which both doctors decided would be very beneficial. Miss
Alexander, a trained nurse of New York City, who has won so much favor
here, is giving her careful attention

Philip Todd and wife gave a delightful supper to a few friends Friday
evening of last week. At about seven o'clock the guest seated themselves
to a table that groaned with tempting goodies and the table was soon
relived of its heavy burden by an appreative assembly. After all had
partaken freely the evening was greatly enjoyed with games, music and
singing. Those present were Rev. and Mrs. T. M. Simanton; W.D. Van
Deerbeek and wife; William Voorhees and wife; Mrs. Crevelin; Mrs. Harbeck;
J. B. Belton and wife; Charles McGovin and wife; D.P. Schomp and J. M.
Allen and wife.
