Betty and all,

I would be very interested in any information you receive about the
parents and family of Julia Ann BRITTAIN, born in New Jersey in 1792.

I too am seeking more information about the BRITTAINS of New Jersey,
especially about my 4g-grandparents, William & Elizabeth BRITTAIN of
Amwell, Hunterdon County, New Jersey.

They had at least two daughters that I know of: Alada BRITTAIN (24
7mo [Jul] 1777 - 12 4mo [Apr] 1848) who married Aaron ELY (24 [7 or 8
mo - contradictory info] 1777 - 20 5mo [May] [1851 or 1857 -
contradictory info]), and Elizabeth BRITTAIN who married Amasa ELY
(12 11mo [Nov] 1787 - 19 9mo [Sep] 1854), youngest brother of Aaron
ELY. Aaron and Amasa were two of the sons of George ELY & Sarah
MAGILL of Solebury, Bucks County, PA. Amasa Ely lived for most of
his life in Lambertville, New Jersey.

After Elizabeth BRITTAIN died, Amasa ELY married another Alada
BRITTAIN, (born 26 Apr 1806 in Amwell, died 18 Feb 1876 and buried in
the Solebury Friends Burial Ground). This Alada was the daughter of
John & Grace BRITTAIN. According to the Ely genealogy, Grace
Brittain died 28 Apr 1880 in Lambertville, New Jersey, at the age of
101 years and 6 months.

I have not yet managed to establish how this John Brittain might be
related to "my" William Brittain.

According to Albert Cook Myers in his "Quaker Arrivals at
Philadelphia 1682-1750...," p. 116, certificate of removal: "John
Britten, wife and family. Children: Jacob, John, and Susanna are
unmarried. Dated 2 mo. 8, 1750, from Mtg. at Cooledine, co. of
Wexford, Ireland. Original on file. Received 6 mo. 31, 1750."

I have wondered if and how the immigrant John Britten might have been
related to either "my" William or to John Brittain.

Any insight would be most appreciated!
