Can anyone on the Hunterdon List help with this query from Bob Staats?
I do not believe he is on the mailing list. Bob can be contacted at
. Thank you!

... I have been research the STAATS family in the area on and off for
the last 15 years with very little success. My father was born in the
old Staats family home on Staats Road outside of the village of
Bloomsbury. He is a direct descendent of the Staats family of
Bloomsbury (many of whom are buried at the Bloomsbury Cemetery).

Several of the Staats', especially John, Sarah, Elizabeth, appear to
be the miscellaneous Staats' found in the 1850 census, Alexandria Twp.
How they are related I am not sure at this time. Johnson Staats was
one of the younger sons of Rhinear (Rynear) STAATS. In 1870, he was
living with his mother and brother, Elwood in or around Everittstown.

Other pre-1860 related families I am interested in are the MELICK,
COUGLE, and FITZER families of Alexandria Twp. They also mostly lived
in the Bloomsbury area after 1860. Rynear's first son was named Henry
MELICK. Rynear's wife's maiden name was Elizabeth COUGLE. And in the
pension records for Rynear's sons George, Peter, and Amos (my
ancestor) are mentioned Edward J. and James COUGLE as cousins. Also,
I am searching for the father of Sarah A. THARP, wife of Amos STAATS,
and possibly the daughter of Absalom THARP of Little York. If you
have any information on these families, I would greatly appreciate
your assistants.

Regards,
Bob
