I've got some Gulicks that are connected to my Groendyke line and they were
in Hunterdon county around Lebanon. Don't know where in NJ that you are
heading, but since this is the Hunterdon County list, I can only presume that
this is where you are heading. One of my Groendyke cousins lives in Lebanon.
It's a lovely area. The rest of my family lines were in Warren and Sussex
county. Lot's of old cemeteries, but be prepared to seeing them broken,
sunken into the ground, fallen over, covered with grass cuttings and
practically buried if you are checking out some of your family. Lots of old
sandstone ones with the names obscured by time and weather. There are also
tombstones that stand tall and have sculptures, urns and the like. I recall
in the back of my mind that I saw some Gulick markers when I was in New
Jersey in 1990, but I visited so many cemeteries I can't be specific as to
where I saw them right now. I was looking for any and all Perry markers at
the time.
Someone wrote about Virginia Alleman Brown library. Didn't know she had one,
but I've used her to help me with my Perry ancestry. She must be getting up
there in age as in some of my correspondence with her she talked about her
father or mother, can't remember which one, who was approaching 100 years old
and that was why she sold the property she used to reside in. That would be
the address you find in all of her publications. She doesn' t live there any
more. She is a wealth of info.
If you would like a current address for her I can give it to you, but not for
a few days, which will probably be after you have left, but you could
correspond with her after you get home. My filing cabinet where I had my
correspondence to/from her is now in a box in the middle of my loft. We're
putting new carpeting in the attic where the filing cabinet belongs and right
now my loft looks like when I first moved into the house--full of cardboard
boxes. While it is in some semblence of order, it's getting to the
particular box that is the problem. Which Chiquita banana box is her file in?
Anyway, let me know if you wish to have her address when I dig out from
under. I can also check my research on the Gulicks. That much is on my
computer! And I can get to that with no problem. The Groendyke book that I
recopied is on my desk and I can see it and get to it to look.
Who are your Gulicks? Let's see if we can connect.
