My maiden name is QUICK (I'M 12th generation) and my first generation
(QUICK) came from Amsterdam into NYC in 1624 and Neu Amsterdam was located
very near to where the World Trade Center was located. My first generation
laid the stone for Old Trinity Church and his grandson (3rd. gen.) cut and
carried the stone. Old Trinity Church has been mentioned several times by
the news media in the past few days. The church has suffered no damage
except for being covered in dust. This terrible disaster is very relevant to
my genealogy and probably many of you because many of those who came in 1624
moved on into Hunterdon and surrounding counties.
My heart and prayers go out to the victims and the families they left
behind. May GOD bless and keep each one.

Isn't THIS what inspires us to research our ancestors in the first place?
To amaze ourselves with how the times/ history, had an effect on the
lives of our ancestors and how our ancestors had such an effect on
history?

Question of the day: Is genealogy simply the listing of the names of
long dead people?
Or is genealogy a larger study of the places and times in which our
people lived and died?
