There are so many errors and outright lies and propaganda in Mike's diatribe
that I finally feel compelled to give voice.
Mike, you say that the US put Pinochet in power (this was in 1973, remember).
I was there. I personally knew the previous president, Eduardo Frei, and the
Communist stooge that became president in 1970, Salvadore Allende. Allende
was a drunken bum; I know this because I had to put him up in our Director's
House at our mining camp in the Atacama Desert. We had to be sure there was
plenty of Johnny Walker Red stocked for him.
In 1973, Pinochet led the revolution that overthrew Allende; whether he was
killed in the fight or committed suicide is a matter of debate (knowing him,
I don't believe he committed suicide) bur he died in the fight at some time.
Now, I knew several CIA and other government people and I know that the CIA
did not sponsor or lead the revolution. Why? Because it was successful! Every
other CIA operation to that time was a fiasco. Remember Bay of Pigs?
Reporters of the time knew the true story, but being good little liberals
like you, Mike, they only reported what the liberal press wants is to see and
hear.
