Hi
There is a piece devoted to the GANO, GERNEAUX family in the book titled
"Traditions of Hunterdon, Early History and Legends of Hunterdon County, NJ"
explaining how Rev. John Gano was born in Hopewell on July 22, 1727, and then
goes on to explain how his family ancestor named Francis Gerneaux had escaped
from the Island of Guernsey and landed in New Rochelle, NY. When Francis
learned his lands had been confiscated in Geurnsey, he also changed his name
to Gano. He supposedly lived to 103. Francis' son Daniel married SARAH
BRITTON of Staten Island and they were the parents of the Rev John Gano
above.
This book is written by John W. LeQuear and taken from a series of articles
that were published in the Hunterdon Republican between 1869 and 1870 and
republished with this book by the Hunterdon County Historical Society in 1857.
I would be glad to scan the passage and send it to you if you'd like.
Dianne
