Ruth,
I don't know how much help it will be with dates, but the book you were
probably reading was "The Hunterdon County New Jersey Militia, 1792"
compiled
by Hiriam E. Deats, sec. of the Hunterdon County Hist. Soc., pub. 1936 in
Flemington, NJ. I copied pages during my last trip to the Hunterdon Co.
Library in May.
As to dates, it charged the officers with enrollment of "every free and
able-bodied white male citizen between the ages of 18 and 45". An additional
quote from the intro: " the book containing the enrollment of the Hunterdon
County Militia, compiled pursuant to the law of 1792, and from which the
following records were copied, was formerly on file in the County Clerk's
office, but is now in the Public Record Office at Trenton"...I assume it now
resides in the NJ State Archives.
Unfortunately, I didn't copy the pages for Kingwood. I do however have the
lists of officers for Reading, Lebanon, Tewkesbury, Kingwood, Alexandria,
and
Bethlehem Townships. (your Moses wasn't listed among the officers). I also
have the full list for Alexandria Twp., a list of the Amwell Twp. Exempts
(not serving), and a partial list of Bethlehem Twp. (Abel, Mathias to
Farrow,
William).
A note to Fran & John...there are the following GANNOES' in the Alexandria
Twp. list: Richard, Samuel, Stephen, William.
If anyone would like me to look for names in my very limited areas, I'd be
more that willing...wish that I'd copied the entire book, now that I'm back
in FL.!
Til the next click, Happy Hunting,
Wendy A. Heitzman
