The Pettit line I have found in NJ hail from New York Thomas Pettit, son of
Henry, b.1609(England) to 1668 (NY) married Christian Mellowes. She was a
descendent of King Edward I and 8 signersof the Magna Charta.

Thomas sided with Anne Hutchinson and was exhiled from NY and founded Exeter,
New Hampshire (future founding place of the GOP.)
His 9 children are

1.Thomas 1630-1715 d. Rochelle, NY
2. Sarah 1634-1705 Queens NY
3. Joseph 1636 Boston
4.Elizabeth 1637Exeter- 1678 Queens
5. Mary abt 1638 Exeter m. Nicholas Edes and John Furman
6. John abt 1641-1715
7.Nathaniel 1646-1718 Hopewell, NJ
8. Hannah 1646-aft 1678
9. Moses 1650 Queens- 1718 Mansfield, Burlington, NJ

(7) Nathaniel married Mary Bayley 1665 daughter of Elias and Rebecca Bayley
listed as from Hopewell, New York

Nathaniel was known as "the Quaker of Newtown"
In 1696 moved to Hopewll, NJ

children:
10. Moses 1665 to 8-7-1718
11. Mary 1668-1754 m. Paul Watkinson, John Moore. Burlington Co.
12. Judith 1669-? married Mr. Neald
13. Nathaniel 1676-1768 m. Elizabeth Heath, Hunterdon Co.
14. Elias abt 1678-? m. Jane Furman
15 Jane 1683-1750 m. George Ealy (Bucks Co., Pa.)
16 Johnathan 1680-1768
17. Joshua abt 1682

9 or 10) Moses married an Alice
children are: Sarah, Lynda, Mary, Judith(m. John Adams 1737 Burlington Co.)
Hannah, Nathaniel, and Adam.
His second wife was Lydia Lawrence. They had a son Nathaniel in 1689.
Sources list this Moses as both the one born in 1650 and 1665. I lean to the
1650 Moses. More research is needed in this area.

16) Johnathan Pettit married Mary Marshall (Queens) and second Elizabeth Bell.
children by first wife:1. Anna Marie -abt 1735-1818 m. Godfrey Greenzweig
moved to Monroe Co. Pa.
2.Aaron 1732 to 3-18-1824 m. Margaret ?? He was supposedly the river boat
captain who ferried George Washington across the Delaware River. He had a son
Thomas 1771-1846 m. Elizabeth Burket and moved to Richland Co. Ohio.
3.Jonas d. abt 1787 Hunterdon Co. ( I assume he is Anna Marie's brother as G.
Greenzweig aquired his land in Pa. upon his death.)

16) Johnathan married second Elizabeth Bell and had a son Johnathan in 1702.
He married Mary Hallet. He had a son John- dates unknown and William b.
1-1-1725/26 and died 1801. He married Christy Stevenson and Lydia Pettit.
