According to "The National Gazetteer of the USA, NJ" in 1983 Black River
is a variant name for Chester. Chester is a populated area in Morris
County, elevation 846', coordinates 404703N0744150W

According to the "Gazetteer of the State of NJ" in 1834:

Black River, or Cooper's Mills, is also the name of a small village on the
above stream [Black River or Lamington River], situate in Chester t-ship,
Morris co., on the turnpike road leading from Morristown to Easton, 14
miles N.W. from the former; contains 1 grist mill, 2 saw mills, a store,
and 6 or 8 dwellings; it is a place of considerable business; the country
around it is hilly, and not very fertile.
