Does anyone know how old the men in the militia were?

I've managed to write down conflicting information - that it was either men ages 18 to 65 or men ages 18 to 45. Since this is one of the few clues for when my ancestor Richard Hankins was born - it would be nice to know if he was born after 1727 or after 1747.
