Subject: [NJHUNTER] Discussion of Computer Virsus
Date: Tue, 27 Nov 2001 20:08:14 +0000
Folks,
We need to put an end to this discussion before it goes
any further.
First, NJHUNTER is not the proper place for the
discussion of computer virsuses. There are many
resources on the web you can use or participate in if
you want to talk about a computer virsus. We this is not
one of them.
Second, you cannot get a virsus from NJHUNTER or anyother
mail list at rootsweb. The mail list program will simply
not allow any message to be sent with a virsus.
If you are getting messages with an virsus attached, this
message is coming directly from the originator to you.
It is not going through this mail list. This happens
because many of the current genre of virsus use the holes
in MS Outlook to send themselves to people in the address
book that resides on the computer. It may look like the
messages comes from rootsweb, but it does not.
Third, never, never open an attachment from someone you
don't know. And think twice about opening an attachment
from someone you do know. Never open an attachment that
has an exe, pif or any other kind of executable program
included in it. Even if you know who sent you the
attachment, play it safe and check with them before you
open the program.
Thanks for your understanding and let's keep NJHUNTER for
a discussion of Hunterdon County.
