Another call for help on sorting out early Hunterdon and adjacent county
residents with these surnames.
In Henry Z Jones book More Palatine Families 1991 he cites Henrich Dils
as another son of Wilhelm and Eulalia Thomas Dilss and, one or both are
cited in the unrecorded will of Johannes Thomas of Lebanon (1735). In
the same para he says Henry Dilts died 11 May 1787. On 25 Jan 1759 a
deed from the ch and grandch of Johan Philip Kaes (including Philip
Dilts and Henry Dilts Jr. - the ch of Ann Dilts, the wife of Henry
Dilts) ...The will of Henry Dilts of Amwell was dated 16 Jun 1784 and
probated 20 Feb 1788 (Hunterdon Co will #1414J); it mentions his wife
Ann(a) and children: Philip (eldest son per will) Henrich, Wilhelm,
Peter, Jacob, Maria md Bodine, Anna md Cool or Kuhl, Elizabetha md
Tied, Catherine, and Christina md Wambach.
My dilema - Johan Philip Kaes, father of Ann, wife of Henrich Dils above
left a will in 1754 in which he cites the children of his first wife,
his present wife Rachel (Housel) and their ch and two children of his
daughter Ann, namely Philip and Henrich. Presumably Ann Kaes Dilts died
on or before 1754. Why would Johan Philip Kaes cite on two of Ann's
children only? And could she have had 10 ch before 1754 before she
died? Or did Henrich Dilss marry again and had 8 more children?
To befuddle my mind further another source has Anna Marie Kaes (Case)
marrying a Peter Dils. This Peter Dils was b ca 1705/10 and was
supposes to have maerried Ann Kaes ca 1734/35. And they presumably had
6 children: Peter b ca 1735 ( is this the Peter who married Mary Hoffman
and this the couple who the progenitors of the WV Dils?), Peter,
Christopher (who m 1 Amelia Godfrey and 2 Anna Catherine Heids?),
Hendrick, Catherine (? m a Beyer) and Anna Elizabeth (who m a Snyder)
And there is more. In the book Early Germans of New Jersey, p 333,
There is an Anna Mary widow of _____ Dilts who married secondly a
William Hoffman of Amwell whose will was probated Apr 1764, names
step-children: Peter Diltz, Philip Diltz who prob m his half sister
Mary Hoffman, Christian (poss, Christopher). Catherine Beyerand Anna
Elizabeth Snyder.
Thanks to Arline Sarver who cited the book "Our ancestry in the Case.
Fisher, Kuhl,Roelofson and related families by Kenn Stryker-Rodda in
whic it states Anna Kaes married a Henry Ddilts and that Anna did
before 1854 leaving sons Philip and Hendrick
Henrich (Henry) quite possibly married a second time and the additionak
children cited above could have been with a second wife. He did outlive
Anna Kaes by 30 years or so. Possibly his second wife was also named
Anna.
Can anyone shed any more light on this. Much appreciated.
