Dear MrBill,

I was pleased to read your greeting to the list as a new subscriber and am
very appreciative of your look-up offer.

I am looking for any information in the Hunterdon Co. area for KINNEY's. My
William KINNEY was supposedly born there in 1806. His marriage may have
taken place in Hunterdon in approx 1825 and the birth of his first three
children may have been in Hunterdon County, NJ. They were Peter W. KINNEY
b. abt 1827/27, Phebe KINNEY b. abt 1829 and Anna KINNEY b. 1833.

This family left NJ for Ontario in the mid to late 1830's. Kinney may show
up a lot in your records and I don't wish to cause you any strife, but would
certainly appreciate it if would check your index for this surname and also
that of BATSON.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Bonnie Menzer Barnes
Perth, Western Australia

> At the present time, I can probably be of more help to researchers since I
am working on a project to computerize and index the Hunterdon Gazette (and
Farmer's Weekly Advertiser) the first newspaper published in the county. The
first issue was dated March 24, 1825 and it ceased publication when it was
bought out by "The Democrat" in July 1866.
>
> I have completed the years 1825 through 1833 and have over 5000 names and
500 pages of newspaper items that contain names of Hunterdon County people
who lived during that period. The items include marriages, deaths,
advertisements, public notices, legal notices, political notices, letters at
the postoffice, etc. All items containing a name or an article of interest
to the county are reproduced in their entirety.

> Hard copies are available at the Hunterdon County Historical Society
Library, 114 Main Street (next to the Methodist Church), Flemington, which
is open to the public on Thursdays from 1 - 3 and 7 - 9. You may call the
office [908-782-1091] to arrange a special appointment for another weekday.
>
> Unless I get inundated by requests, you may ask me to scan the Surname
Index for your favorite ancestor and I will oblige. I'll publish a notice if
this gets to be too much for me since I am spending at least 40 hours a week
working on the project. When completed we will have a CD available in
addition to the hard copy. Eventually, a hard copy will be available at the
Hunterdon County Library on Route 12.

spellings: 1700s: Carcoff, Hendricks, Rederick, Rodenbaugh, Smith, and
Stires; 1800s: Hartman, Hughes, Polhemus and again Stires. Be glad to
exchange what I have on these ancestors.
