It's interesting to see you say this. My ggg grandfather, John LAKE, was
referred to as a sheriff and as a constable (does anyone know the
difference?) in Hunterdon Co as early as 1822. He was referred to
ex-sheriff in 1829. How many sheriffs would a county have in those times?
John LAKE was from Bethlehem Twp. Would each township have a sheriff?

How are you sure of the years that Gabriel HOFF served as sheriff?
