Hi Marshall,
The information I have is from Snell's "History of Hunterdon & Somerset
Counties". The Hunterdon County civil list has him listed as Kingwood town
clerk (1802), Coroner (1823), & High Sheriff (1824-1827). He's also
mentioned in the section prominent men of Kingwood. Obituary notices have
referred to him as "late sheriff".
Here in Texas we have both sheriff's (ea. county) & constables (ea.
precinct), but I don't know how they differ. Hunterdon seems too large to be
covered by just one sheriff, maybe someone else on the list could give a
better answer.
