How about PDF format from Adobe? There are _free_ readers available for
Windows, Apple, and UNIX (Linux). I'm not completely sure what it takes
to get something into PDF format but it would probably require spending
money on software from Adobe. PDF is a graphic format so you should be
able to retain all formatting. Searching capablities are built into the
readers so maybe you won't need to bother indexing everything? Maybe it
would just be a matter of snapping a picture, tranferring that picture to
your computer, and feeding the JPG (or whatever) through software that
converts the image to PDF format?
