I subscribe to genealogy.com and like you, I agree that it brings up MANY
hits that are not relevant.

I have also found things on genealogy.com that I had been unable to find
other places.

BUT like everything else, I would use ancestry.com and genealogy.com (and
other databases) NOT as source material, but only a starting point to do
research.
