Hi Dick,

The 1870 census has an Asa Hoffman, carpenter age 20 living in Lebanon TWP.,
Hunterdon County. He is living with presumed parents Isaac Hoffman,
carpenter age 46 and Mary Hoffman age 45. Also living with this family are
presumed siblings Abraham, 23 a farmer, Mary Jane 16, Martha 14, and Rachel
Ann 8. Mary Hoffman may have been born Mary Everitt as an Isaac Hoffman
married a Mary Everitt in Hunterdon County on Dec 14, 1844. Isaac may have
been born on Mar 25, 1822, the son of Henry 'Carpenter' Hoffman and Ann
Apgar.

Also in the 1870 census, across the county line in Morris County, Washington
TWP, is a Martha Fleming, age 16. She was living with presumed parents
Philip Fleming, farmer age 56, and Rachel age 49. Possible siblings were
Jane 19, Elizabeth 18, Isabelle 13, Melissa 11, Daniel 7, Mulford 2, and
Victoria 6.

Henry and Isaac Hoffman are mentioned in Chamber's 'Early Germans of NJ'.
"Henry ('Carpenter') b. 1784 (or 1787), Feb 3, married 1816, Jan 13, Ann
Apgar (dau of Conrad), b 1798, March 12; bought 20-acre lot, where Isaac now
lives; had children 1. Mary married Will Anderson (s. of William 1st), as
his first wife; 2 Abraham, b 1822, March 24, married Anna Bunn (dau of
Peter), lives south of Califon; 3. Isaac, twin to Abraham, married first,
Mary Everitt (dau of Jesse); second, Amanda Anthony (dau of Jacob); 4.
Elisabeth, married William Anderson (son of William) as his second wife; 5.
Hannah, married James Anderson (son of William)". I have more data on both
of these Hoffman and Fleming families if you are interested.

Regards,

Rick Novak
