Hello,
Many people ask me why I am interested in genealogy, and what benefit
I see in it. I found the following under piles and piles of family
information that I'm sorting through as I embark on documenting my
nephew's genealogy. (He is a United States Marine.) It very much
describes how I feel, and I would like to share it with you. I hope
you enjoy it.
"We live in the past by a knowledge of its history, and in the future
by hope and anticipation. By ascending to an association with our
ancestors, by contemplating their example and studying their
character; by partaking their sentiments and imbibing their spirit; by
accompanying them in their toils; by sympathizing in their sufferings
and rejoicing in their successes and triumphs, we mingle our existence
with theirs and seem to belong to their age."
