Subject: [NJHUNTER] council of Safety Order for Arrest
Date: Mon, 22 Apr 2002 10:35:56 -0700 (PDT)

>From the NJ Archives, there is a card from Capt. Adam Hope's Revolutionary Service file as follows:

Pittstown, Octr 22nd, 1777. Ordered that Mr. Elmer pay to Adam Hope five dollars in full for himself & 4 men to apprehend Jas McCORD, Michael BEEDLE, Edmund RITTENHOUSE, Joseph HOLDRON, Elisha JOLLY, Samuel HALL, John WARNER, Peter BELLES, Hezekiah WATERHOUSE, John EYKE, Moses WARFORD, James WARFORD, Wm. McLEAN, William HOMER, Henry TRONK, Levi KITHEN, Christopher LOOP, Wm. KEMPLE, Ferris EYKE.

Reference is made to the Council of Safety, 1777-78, p. 156.

I did not have time to look up the original file - and don't know when I'll be back. I do not know the purpose of the arrest and I am curious. Given the names, they do not appear to be tories. I was wondering if these individuals were in the militia and were AWOL. Does anyone have any knowledge as to this?
