Hi Melinda, you wrote:

Dear Mr. Bill:

Hello, my name is Melinda Clark-Black. I have ancestors on my mothers-mothers side from your Hunterdon County, NJ. His name was John Hill and he had a son named:

Samuel Hill, Sr. born on July 27, 1772 & died February 17, 1853

Samuel Hill, Sr. m. Rachel _______ (unknown). All dates are unknown. Samuel came from Brownsville, PA. Bought land from Jacob Prickit on Dec. 5th, 1816 near Prickett's Fort, Marion County, VA.
Children of Samuel Hill & Rachel:
1. Issac Hill born about 1800.

But I have not been able to verify about John Hill or about the birth of his son Samuel Hill. If you have any ideas please help guide me here. Thanks

native from WV

RESPONSE:

There was a Samuel Hill listed in the Hunterdon Gazette every year from 1825 through 1836. I know there is a great deal of information, or should I say, a number of newspaper items in which his name appeared. My memory says that one Sam Hill died and his son Samuel Hill continued! Because I am leaving shortly for Florida, I can't run the text search for you now, but will do so when I return in about 2 weeks.

Please email me to let me know whether or not your computer can read MicroSoft Word documents (they have a file extension of .doc). If so, I can copy and paste the items for you to read. That way, the format is retained and they will look similar to the original in the newspaper. If you can't read (.doc) I can now convert to the file extension (.pdf) but you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer to read these documents. You can download the program for FREE from the Internet in the event that you don't already have it installed! Let me know either way.

If you live in Eastern PA, you could plan to come to the Hunterdon County Historical Society in Flemington where there is a copy of the Index and hard copy of the newspaper text. Let me know and I'll steer you in the right direction.

Regards, Bill
