Hi Rose,

As Dennis mentioned in his email to you, there was an earlier newspaper in
Hunterdon County and it was the first, with the first issue in March 1825.
It continued until 1866 when it was purchased by the Democrat. I am indexing
and extracting via computer word document all of the news items pertaining
to people and events of Hunterdon County as it then existed. I have
completed 12 years and will soon have the Index on a Web site, hopefully
later this month. This will be followed by a CD which will contain all these
items for the years 1825 through 1834. Look for it since I will make an
announcement on the NJHUNTER Chat Board or Room or whatever they call this
venue!

Incidentally the Hunterdon County Historical Society Library is located in
Flemington, NJ and they have the most complete collection of original
Hunterdon County Newspapers. I believe they have all of the Democrat, nearly
all of the Hunterdon Gazette, and just about all of the other local and town
papers - either the originals, or on microfilm. That is where I am getting
my information for the Gazette!
