Subject: [NJHUNTER] LOTT PHILLIPS and ancestors - query
Date: Mon, 16 Dec 2002 06:18:15 -0800 (PST)

I am descended from JONATHAN PHILLIPS m. 11/7/1812 MARY SMITH. I have confirmed that his parents were LOTT and ELIZABETH PHILLIPS. His death certificate lists his parents as such. But more recently, I have confirmed this through several 1820 deeds between JONATHAN's brothers, they disposed of LOTT's land in Amwell. These deeds note that LOTT PHILLIPS died without a will and I have not uncovered any inventory or other intestate materials regarding LOTT. The WINDER-PHILLIPS BURAL GROUND lists a LOTT dying in 1820 and that his wife was ELIZABETH TITUS (this date corresponds to the deeds).

Some Gedcoms that I have come across bring this line back further listing LOTT's father as PETER PHILLIPS (m. ELIZABETH WINDER -makes sense since son Lott is buried in Winder-Phillips burial ground). Peter's father is listed as Justice JOHN PHILLIPS (m. ANNETJE LOTT).

Can anyone confirm these and point me to a few primary sources?

I have also come across a series of newspaper articles, written by Charles Stryker Fillips, that give a history of the Phillips family. Has anyone come across this and can they confirm its accuracy?

By the way, according to the deed, the above JONATHAN's brothers and their wive's first names were

URIEL (wife CHARITY)

GIDEON (wife FRANCES)

JOSEPH (wife LUCRETIA)

JOHN (wife CHARITY) (according to the C.S. FILLIPS article, JOHN and JONATHAN were twins)

and LOTT (unmarried in 1820)
