An ancestor of mine has the middle name GAINES (Edward G. Phillips). I do not know how this name became his middle name. I can't locate a Gaines in his father's side and his mother's parents were a Smith and Van Schomp. E.G. Phillips was born in AMWELL around 1814-5.

Does anyone know of any GAINES families or places in this area?
