Subject: [NJHUNTER] Hunterdon Court Records question

Hi Diane and all
The "Index To Files, Including: Miscellaneous Records- Recognizances-
Indictments- Affidavits- Appeals- Insolvents- Loans, 1700-1900" is FHL
#0802487, for "New Jersey. Inferior Court of Common Pleas (Hunterdon
County)". These were filmed in 1969 and 1970.
File #37 is on microfilm #0808067 is looks like an early 1700's film (after
1713).
The files on microfilm end with, no. 35502-35611 for 1713-1860 FHL
#819104, so you'll need to write the Hunterdon County Clerk's Office, Hall
of Records, Flemington, NJ .

>Maybe someone who has seen these records at the courthouse can answer
this. I viewed a mf of the index to Hunterdon Court Records 1700-1900 for a
particular surname and was wondering if anyone knows how the numbers relate
to a record. In some cases it indicates recognizance, indictment, appeal,
but what about the others? I only have a list of names & numbers (i.e. 37,
39886), no dates or indication of what the record contains, so I have no
idea if I even have the right person. I tried calling the courthouse in
Flemington Friday but got disconnected both times. I'd also like to know if
copies can be ordered by mail since I live out-of-state.
Hope someone can explain -- I thought the index would indicate a
volume/page #. Glad to be back on the list.
