To all the helpful listers,
I should have said that I viewed the LDS mf#802474 "Index to Files
(Hill-Hy)", which was a mf of Index Cards for the court records. From the
replies I've read, it seems quite easy once you're actually at the
courthouse.
A person I was in contact with went there, looked at the records, and
sent me notes of what they contained. She didn't make copies of the records
because at that time, $3.00 per page was expensive enough. I know LDS has mf
of the deeds and inventories are cheaper to order through the state
archives. The party died intestate, the estate was declared insolvent, and
letters of administration were issued to sell the property. The notes she
took included the Book Vol. & page #s of these records, which I (mistakenly)
thought the LDS mf Index would also contain.
One of my brick walls has been finding documentation that our ancestor is
descended from this family. He would have been a minor when the father died
in 1830 and I thought there might be guardianship or orphans records since
I've tried all else except church marriage records. Now that I have the
surrogate's office information, it's worth a try to ask them directly.
Thanks to all for your help and suggestions.
Diane
