Once you're talking about St. James (Straw) Church, you're over in present-day Warren County, but it was still Sussex up till 1824 or 1825.
I have an Elizabeth Leffler in my database who married Peter B. DeWitt (abt 1803-1886).
Here are some early Sussex deeds that refer to the area around where the Straw Church is located:
!Sussex County Deed Book, Vol. G, page 117, 14 November 1801, JACOB SHNYDER of Forks Twp., Northampton County, Penn., Weaver, and MARY his wife to PETER SCHWARTZ of Greenwich, Sussex County. L 61.10 ...10 acres and 43-1/2 perches adjoining ISAAC DEWITT, JOHN LEFFLER, GEORGE HEITSMAN. Land on Delaware River. Part of 85 acres which he bought of DANIEL SMITH of the City of Burlington, NJ, on 4 May 1795. The said 85 acres was part of a survey done for DANIEL SMITH in 1774 for 877 acres. He signed, she X. Witness; JOHN LEFFLER. On 14 November 1801 they deposed to JOHN MAXWELL.
!Sussex County Deed Book, Vol. G., page 119, 14 November 1801, JACOB SHNYDER of Forkes Twp., Northampton County, Penn. To JOHN LEFFLER of Greenwich, l 280.17.6 ...80 1/4 acres and 20 perches adjoining GEORGE HEITSMAN, PETER SCHWARTZ, ISAAC DEWITT, GEORGE MUTSCHLER & GEORGE GEASER. He signed, she X. Witness: Peter Schwartz. On same day they deposed to JOHN MAXWELL.
